Ford’s long-standing support of the African American community dates back to the early 1900s when it was the first automaker to pay employees of all races the same wage. Today, Ford Fund is building on that legacy by investing in organizations and initiatives that empower and positively impact the African American community.

Through partnerships and programs, Ford Fund celebrates the achievements of African Americans, including how they have shaped our country’s history, and are laying a foundation for its future.

Ford Fund provides a number of social mobility programs that help African Americans move up the ladder of success. These initiatives are focused on meeting basic needs, creating opportunities for economic growth and improving quality of life.

“The unfortunate reality is that people born into the bottom 20 percent economically only have a 4 percent chance of moving to the top,” says Pamela Alexander, director of community outreach, Ford Fund. “The situation in which a child is born should not determine their potential for future success. That’s why, at Ford Fund, we are committed to creating and investing in programs that work to change this trajectory.”
