Ford Fund has invested $100,000 at Craiova County Emergency Hospital

CRAIOVA, Romania, June 12, 2019 — Ford Romania announces today the finalization of a 100,000 USD investment at Craiova County Emergency Hospital, supported by Ford Motor Company Fund, the philanthropic arm of the company. The investment was made working with their international grant making partner GlobalGiving and the non-profit association Rotary Craiova Probitas.

Group credited with obtaining grant

The investment process took place between January and May of this year and included the acquisition of more than 200 beds, replacing beds that are more than 49 years old. These have been installed at Emergency, General Surgery, Plastic Surgery and Rehabilitation Departments, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Labor Medicine, Gastroenterology, Oncology.

"This investment it's a proof of Ford commitment to improve the life of the local community in Craiova and in the entire Oltenia region. Health is one of the most important pillars of Ford Fund activity. There's still a lot to be done and I hope that our investment will inspire other business community members to contribute financially to the well-being of the community in which we all operate", said Ian Pearson, Ford Romania President & Ford Craiova Plant Manager.

The 200 beds purchased as part of this investment are added to another 50 beds purchased by the hospital over the past 2 years, again with the financial support of Ford Motor Company Fund.

Also, within the project, a gastroscope was purchased, medical equipment of vital importance for treating emergencies with digestive haemorrhages. Prior this acquisition made by Ford Fund, the hospital was using the equipment from the Research Department of the University of Medicine.

Ford Fund contributed also to the triage unit and the emergency reception unit which were fitted with stretchers, medical furniture and beds, which will improve the medical act and increase patient comfort.

"For us, the partnership with Ford Motor Company Fund represents the foundation of a better future for the community throughout Oltenia, and the projects we have implemented are proof of what we can achieve together. The investment at Craiova County hospital has succeeded to respond to a need, expressed over the years, by both patients and doctors: to bring the conditions in the Romanian state hospitals up to those in the West. Along with the medical equipment donated so far to the hospital, these recent actions strive to help thousands of patients. We feel honoured to have accomplished projects of this magnitude, and we hope to be able to meet, together, other needs of the community in which we operate in the future", said Dr. Adrian Cojocaru from Rotary Craiova Probitas NGO.

Last month, following another Ford Fund, volunteers from Ford Craiova plant worked to properly rearrange and signalize the heliport serving the hospital, thus contributing to safe medical transport for patients with critical needs.

In the last couple of years, Ford Motor Company Fund has invested more than $160,000 in the Emergency County Hospital in Craiova to upgrade and equip several hospital areas.

"The investment made with the support of the Rotary Probitas Club Craiova and financed by the Ford Motor Company Fund working with their international grant making partner GlobalGiving. The purpose of improving the quality of the conditions for hospital admissions of SCJU patients, is an important milestone in the activity of our medical unit. This comes to support the efforts that the hospital is making to provide quality medical services and has an extraordinary impact, on one hand, from the patients' point of view, who enjoy increased comfort during the recovery period, and on the other hand, from the perspective of medical personnel, working in improved conditions. We want to express our full gratitude to our sponsor and salute the decision to actively be involved in the local community. In fact, we are completely confident that our message also represents the position of the thousands of patients who walk through our doors every month", said Dr. Georgescu Eugen, Manager of Craiova County Emergency Hospital.

Recent Ford Motor Company Fund activities in Romania include the support of additional 6 new social entrepreneurship programs at Ford Resource and Engagement Centre in Craiova, the refurbishment of two local kindergartens (Făcăi and Îngerași). Also, throughout June, Ford Romania together with partner Napoca Rally Academy will be running the Ford's defensive driving program - Ford Driving Skills for Life course in Pitesti, Bucharest and Timisoara. DSFL is Ford's multi awarded free defensive driving program that reaches more than 1000 young drivers each year in Romania and more than 2,500 teenagers through in-school seminars.
