A signature program of the Ford Volunteer Corps, Global Caring Month is a concentrated month long focus on community service each September. In addition to employee volunteers planning and coordinating projects, Ford Fund – the philanthropic arm of Ford – provides grants to nonprofits and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) nominated by Ford employees to buy the tools and supplies needed to complete many of the activities.

This year, Ford Fund is excited to offer two programs, Gratitude and Volunteer Project Grants, to recognize the important work of NGOs and to support those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The deadline to apply for both programs is May 31, 2021.

Global Caring Month Selection Criteria

When reviewing the applications, the Ford Volunteer Corps team will research the mission of the organization, the community that they serve and how they have adapted to the pandemic. Ford employees completing the applications are asked to be as specific as possible with budget line items. Applications submitted on behalf of employee teams will be prioritized. The following items will be considered during the review process for both types of grants:

  • Previous partnership with Ford Volunteer Corps
  • Level of employee engagement
  • Organization’s response and efforts with COVID-19 in the community
  • Detailed budget
  • Thoroughness and detail within the application
  • Secondary considerations will include the location of the project and employee types/groups involved to ensure broad representation

In addition to the list above, Volunteer Project Grant Applications will also consider:

  • Clearly stated, tangible outcome of volunteer project
  • Acknowledgement COVID-19 Safety Protocols
COVID-19 Safety Guidelines

The priority for Global Caring Month is to keep employees safe and be as flexible as possible given the everchanging circumstances of the pandemic. In order to participate in in-person volunteer projects, employees must comply with local market regulations, safety protocols and must check with their local HR representative to ensure the volunteer project is compliant with local company guidelines.

If in-person volunteer activities are canceled due to unexpected COVID-19 closures, approved Volunteer Project Grants will revert to a Gratitude Grant. The NGO or nonprofit organization must notify GlobalGiving, Ford Fund’s global grantmaking partner, of the canceled activity to ensure the nonprofit still receives the grant.
