Ford Fund, Employees and Dealers Step Up for Australia Fire Relief

A donation of $100,000 USD to the Australian Red Cross will focus on people impacted by the devastating fires

MELBOURNE, Australia — The relentless wildfires burning across Australia have left at least 24 people dead, destroyed 2,000 homes and charred nearly 15 million acres. At least 136 bushfires continue to burn in the extreme heat and dry conditions.

To help charities and organizations working tirelessly to ensure the affected areas have continued support, Ford of Australia is working with the Ford Motor Company Fund—Ford's global philanthropic arm—to donate $65,000 USD to the Australian Red Cross. Ford Motor Company employees and dealers across the world are also eligible to have their donations matched up to $35,000 for a total donation of $100,000 USD. Locally, Ford of Australia is working to provide vehicle support to fire and emergency services organizations and charities on the ground.

Australian states fight bushfires every year, but this outbreak is one of the worst in history. In addition to the human impact, the fires are taking a staggering toll on the country's wildlife. At least 500 million koalas, kangaroos and other animals are reported dead and large sections of habitat destroyed.

Ford Fund continues to monitor the evolving situation and is staying in touch with our disaster relief partners.
